The ICSSR sponsored Two Day National Seminar on ‘Smart Cities, Rural Development and Sustainable Clean Environment’(SCRDSCE-2018) during 22nd & 23rd June 2018 organised by Department of Geography, R.P.S.Degree College, Balana, Mahendergarh, Haryana held in seminar hall of the college. Honourable chief patron of RPS Group of institutions Dr O.P.Yadav presided over the function by lighting the lamp with other dignitaries. Prof Aslam Mahmood from was the Chief Guest of the event.

The aim of this seminar was to discuss the issues related to smart city mission and it’s complimentarily, contradictions with rural development. Issues with rural-urban development and Sustainability of clean environment were also intended to discuss here.

In his talk Prof Aslam Mahmood appreciated the concept of smart city but he suggested to have proper development planning of small and medium towns also. He suggested that the sustainable development of a city can be done by evolving its economic base for revenue generation and there should be continuation of development from city to rural space. No gap should be left unplanned.

Professor Saraswati Raju from JNU stressed on elimination of gender based discrimination from our society. She told that smart city is not possible without smart citizens. Professor Hariharan Ramachandran from Delhi University told that our priority should be Village development where the maximum population, maximum work force and maximum poor people are living. Dr. S.D Attri, Deputy Director, Indian Metrological Department-New Delhi also advocated the need of smart villages with smart cities. On same time he warned against such development activities those affecting the environment and climate.

Dr R.N.Yadav Principal, G.V.M.G.R..R. Degree College Charkhi Dadri, asked people to link with our Indian culture that already have many customs, traditions to save the nature. With warning against ‘Dependency Syndrome, he asked participants to actively play their role in conservation of environment. Dr. S.S.Yadav from K.L.P.College, Rewari, stressed on need of technological innovation for a success of smart city mission. Dr. Vikram Singh from Government College, Nangal Choudhary shared his idea over rural development scenario of south Haryana. Chief patron Dr O.P.Yadavremarked the role of RPS kind of institution in rural development of south part of Haryana. He asked people to pledge <to the take good care of the plants and plant at least one plant per year at birthday of each family member.
